World Radio Day: Seven radio jockeys with magical voices who later entered Bollywood
On World Radio Day, let's have a look at those popular and quirky radio jockeys of India who entered showbiz industry.
Radio is a powerful and one of the oldest means of communication. Even before the world of internet and television, it was radio that connected people with each other. Radio even played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India, motivating people to participate in the independence movement.
Today, we are celebrating the seventh edition of World Radio Day. In 2011, February 13 was chosen as World Radio Day. This was done after Spain's Radio Academy came up with a proposal in 2010. UNESCO then declared the first World Radio Day in 2011. The day coincided with the United Nations Radio's anniversary, which was established on February 13, 1946. The theme of this year World Radio Day is ''Radio and Sports'' and the sub-themes are Diversity in Sports Coverage, Gender Equality in Sports Coverage and Peace and Development through Sports Coverage.
So, on World Radio Day, let's have a look at those popular and quirky radio jockeys of India who entered showbiz industry.
Ayushmann khurana
The first and foremost name that comes in our mind is none other than Ayushmann Khurrana. He is multi-talented and there is no doubt in it. The actor hosted Big Chai – Maan Na Maan, Main Tera Ayushmann and won Young Achievers Award in 2007 for it. He then made Bollywood debut in 2012 with Shoojit Sircar's Vicky Donor.
Aparshakti Khurana
Following the footsteps of his elder brother, Aparshakti also became a radio jockey with BIG FM in Delhi. He later made his debut with Aamir Khan starrer Dangal in 2016.
Maniesh Paul
The quirky TV host Maniesh Paul tried his hands in Bollywood but couldn't bag success. However, we love his anchoring style and are totally in awe of it. He has done Mickey Virus and awaiting the release of Ba Baa Black Sheep.
Neil Bhoopalam,
Neil Bhoopalam, who impressed us with his performances in NH 10, No One Killed Jessica, Shaitan, etc was a radio jockey at the onset of his career.
